E1 Tools Release 9.2 Update 5 has Arrived!

Oracle has released EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2 Update 5 and it comes with significant enhancements as well as impactful platform certifications that customers will need to consider as part of their continuous delivery approach.‍

Digital Transformation

‍Features and enhancements to AIS and the Orchestration Studio continue to add value to customers’ Digital Transformation initiatives. Of these features, the “Assertion Framework” has been created which allows designers to set expected values related to specific orchestrations during runtime. If a value is outside of the range, the failed assertion is displayed. In addition to this framework, in the Studio, you can now assign variable names for content that is being uploaded to a REST endpoint. This simplifies development when using a content management system and provides more robust options during development. Another notable is that E1 now enables the session to be extended, within the UX-One framework, to third party systems. This allows the sharing of data, like session info, to further integrate and create a seamless user experience.

‍Architecture

‍Architecture changes loom large as well with this release.  More specifically, the local database required for E1 development clients has been eliminated! This is great news for administrators who have grappled with the complexities of installing and maintaining development clients. To accomplish this, the Oracle development team has transferred the database objects, previously stored locally, to the Central Objects datasource as “User Specs” tables. This change in approach unlocks the ability to initiate package builds and deploys as well as object transfers all from the web, rather than a development client. Like the “objects to the database” features released earlier, Oracle is laying the foundation to further on-the-glass development and getting away from the ‘fat’ client approach.

‍Certifications

‍Oracle has a fresh list of certified platforms and middleware and the full list can be found here. Some notables for those who are just starting their upgrade projects:

• Oracle Database 19c – Local DB for Deployment Server
• Microsoft Windows Server 2019 support for deployment server and Development Client
• Oracle Linux 8
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
• IBM i 7.4 on POWER Systems

For those who are more interested in what will be deprecated, here is a list of platforms that will require to be uplifted if you want to get to 9.2.5:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2
• Microsoft SQL Server 2014

64-Bit

‍Finally, Oracle has also set the end of life for 32-bit EnterpriseOne and officially stated that this release, 9.2.5, will be the last supported release for all platforms. All subsequent releases, 9.2.6 presumably released next year, will only be made GA as 64-bit. This is true for all platforms except for those customers running Solaris or HP/UX. These platforms have already gone to full 64-bit and there is no support for 32-bit E1 running 9.2.5.For all other releases, 32-bit will be unsupported after 9.2.5:

• Oracle Linux
• Microsoft Windows Server
• IBM i on POWER Systems
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux
